The perfect combination – ATE presents innovative coated brake discs With a large range of new coated brake discs for the aftermarket sector, ATE has once again provided proof of its innovative strength. Coated brake discs from ATE feature a wide range of positive characteristics such as excellent braking performance, an attractive appearance and long-lasting corrosion resistance. As a result, the spare parts trade and independent repair facilities now not only have conventional greased brake discs at their disposal but also a wide range of the latest brake disc technology in OEM quality, also featuring an attractive appearance. As a specialist for brake systems, ATE meets the toughest quality requirements with its coated brake discs, which are combined with a new and long-lasting stainless look. ATE, a brand of Continental with more than 100 years of experience in brake development, is once again setting the standards in quality, innovation and system expertise with its coated brake discs. Since the technically sophisticated coating is combined with an attractive design, these brake discs also make a strong visual impact – combined with the right alloy wheels, for example. ATE currently has the largest range of coated brake discs outside of the automotive manufacturers for supplying the aftermarket sector with OEM quality products. More than 430 different coated brake discs will be available by the end of 2009. Brake discs from ATE are supplied balanced if necessary and, depending on the vehicle model, with mounting bolts – another fact which will contribute to the success of coated brake discs in the aftermarket sector. Another important benefit is that workshops will not have to make any complicated changes to their internal systems because the uncoated and coated brake discs have the same item numbers. The coating consists of a paint system with an aluminum base and the high-quality manufacturing by ATE ensures that the thickness variation, for example, has an extremely low tolerance of max. 10 µm. The coating is also made of environmentally friendly material. The coated area of the brake disc remains protected against corrosion even after installation. This not only ensures safety, it also makes for an excellent appearance. The coating of the brake discs has been proven to have no effect on braking characteristics during braking. This was also confirmed in tests performed by TÜV Nord (Technical Inspection Association) before the range of coated brake discs was introduced by ATE. TÜV Nord came to the conclusion that the coating resulted in no significant reduction in the friction coefficient during braking with the new coated brake discs. In order to remove the coating on genuine ATE brake discs after fitting, we recommend carrying out at least five braking procedures from a speed of approx. 50 km/h to a standstill, with a delay normally experienced in traffic. For reasons of comfort and in order to ensure optimum safety in traffic, please carry out this procedure before your customer takes possession of the vehicle. The coated area of the brake disc remains corrosion-protected after fitting. This not only ensures safety, but also provides an excellent appearance. During the „running-in“ of the brake disc, there could be grinding noises caused by the removal of the coating material from the friction surfaces. After the „running-in“ cycle, the frictional surfaces will appear as polished metal, without any residue of the coating material. Coating material which builds up in front of the linings is normal, and does not have any effect on the braking behaviour. No additional treatment, such as cleaning, is required before installation.
